Gert-Jan, did you ever get someone to turn over the website too?

Is there any official Wet Plate Day site? Seems 2012 is all I find?

My understanding is http://www.wetplateday.org/ - wet plate day has always been the official site, though Garette's comment is confusing to me ... I need to lurk more!

Look at that site, it looks totally stagnant since last year. I have a big wet plate party going on that day. It would have been nice to share the enthusiasm.

Gert-Jan was gracious enough to build the site and upload the images. Shortly after last year he asked if someone else would take over. I suppose he didn't get any takers.
At any rate we can still participate and post in a thread here on the forum (or on the new forum).

"Look at that site, it looks totally stagnant since last year."

I don't understand, why do you see that as a bad thing? People get together once a year to make plates and show off what they made. Seems perfectly reasonable use of the site to me.

I would help and thought about offering, but I'm still very new to wordpress and fear I'd mess things up. So if someone is up for some hand holding ... ?

Hi, I wasn't being critical. Just that I kept getting referred to that site and there was not even an announcement of Wet Plate Day 2013. I would never criticize the volunteer efforts that go into something like that. If someone capable is generous and updates the site this year, great. If not we will post here as was suggested. No worries either way. Good luck to all that are shooting that day!

Yeah, I was just going to start making announcements, but have been holding off wondering were the best posting spot would be.  But yes, World Wetplate Day is about everyone world wide shooting that day.  It was started by Quinn, and several of us old timers to honor Archer, the inventor.  Back then, there were only 51 people that shot the first year.

Wetplate has grown so much since 2009 that "getting awareness" is no longer a big goal.  But comradeship is!

EDIT on 5/2: please see page 2 for the latest update on this. The old http://www.wetplateday.org/ site will be up and running again this year.

A friend who has been modeling for me for the past 5 years, including every Wet Plate Day since 2009, was asking me yesterday about the old website and any plans for this year. I told her the situation as discussed in this thread, and the next thing I knew she was volunteering to set up, host, and manage a site dedicated to the 2013 event. No sooner did she offer to take it on than she had a site set up.

Please check it out:[edit: http://www.wetplateday.org/] .

Neither of us wants to step on anyone's toes here, but if everyone is okay with this it will give a public face to the work everyone does next Saturday.

She also has experience in online publishing so a 2013 book is a potential possibility if people are interested.

Please post or PM any opinions, suggestions, complaints, or anything else. Again, she doesn't want to step on any toes but she has always been enthusiastic about Wet Plate Day, and most especially the previous websites. She loves to see other peoples' work, as do I. I thought the 2009 book was great and I'm sorry there haven't been others.

EDIT TO ADD: she has been in touch with Geert-Jan Heyda, he is totally supportive. In fact she may end up using the original site instead of a new one. Stay tuned for updates.

I just made one too.  Mine is www.worldwetplateday.mil.

Just kidding.  But honestly, from someone in the business, her site is a cheap imitation.  Anyone can get a domain name and slap up a site with wordpress.  So far...this looks like that's what she did.  Geert-Jan has a quality site, with admin logins to upload the pictures, thumbnail features, sorted by year, multiple tabs with more information, etc. Etc.   http://www.wetplateday.org/ - http://www.wetplateday.org/

I would not muddy the water with yet another site, unless we have to kill the original for some reason.  I helped Geert-Jan write the content for the first site, and I understand he doesn't want to manage it forever.  Why not ask your friend to just manage HIS site?

I think you missed my edit to the original post: he is enthusiastic and they're working on her updating his existing site instead of making a new one. It's looking promising that the original site will continue after all.

More than anything what worries me is how fragmented such a small group can get (has gotten?). At one point it was basically this site or the CW Reenactors as the place to go and now ...? Imho, keeping the original alive sounds like the wisest option.

That's part of growth.  World Wetplate Day started that growth.

Oh well.  This is way more important than grading anyway...

Okay, it's all set. My friend has coordinated with Geert-Jan and she will update the original site. So bookmark http://www.wetplateday.org/ and plan to upload your images this weekend. All of the previous years' posts are still available for viewing there as well.

A terrific shoot today. I was delighted to be nailing perfect exposures from the very first plate. I had so many good plates that it was hard to choose only two images for the wetplate.org site.

I'm looking forward to seeing everyone else's work on the site. I sure what I'm seeing on there so far.

Yeah, I saw your plates Rene, nice.  I had great luck too, very bright and good exposures.  You and I both try to replicate the best of the 1860s pros, and it's not easy!

I had fun shooting the plate I submitted, as some of you know I'm just starting out, and got what i consider a pretty good plate ! I did it both on trophy and clear glass. I have much more problem getting a clean image on glass than trophy, but still happy with all three plates I got on Saturday ! =)
