Definitely interested, Quinn.  I think using Skype is a great idea!  A feed from the darkbox would be a coup.  If you're creating an email distribution for this...hit me at hiottb@mac.com.

.....To do:  check Skype balance prior to the webcast!

Best,

You shouldn't need credit for Skype unless you are using it to call phones.  I used it this summer for a class I taught called Night Photography.  I was able to get 2 guest speakers - one from California and the other from Canada- to talk about their work for an hour each. It worked great.

Thanks everyone. There seems to be enough interest. I'm in Glasgow right now, I'll be home later this week and I'll get back to working on getting a date set for it.

Henning, I could possibly do a post of it - but it might defeat the purpose (being live and all) but we'll see.

Gustavo, I only need a few people. The only thing I want to cover is the cost of supplies and chemistry/substrate, etc.

The Skype to Skype is totally free, and as fotochick and Zman pointed out, it works great for this kind of thing. I think it will be sweet and very worthwhile.

More later.. keep the ideas and comments coming please.

quinn - this is a terrific idea and i suspect will be enormously worthwhile for those of us just starting out and on limited financial and time budgets.

Thanks again, everyone. I thought there would be interest and this is validation for me. Here's a link with a little more info, just thinking out loud really. If you have any ideas about it, I would love to hear them. I'm thinking it might end up being a live stream, depends on the quality...

Okay, as the research continues, I've found some interesting bits.

First, I'm now debating whether just to convert all of my digital video over and do VODCASTING (Video On Demand Casting), kind of like Podcasting, which I’m a big fan of. I'm even thinking of "publsihing" my book this way, with vodcasts and a PDF of my new book. Trees would love me, and people would have access to the information quickly and easily.

My VODCASTS would be broken into "workshop" sections or chapters and cover everything in incredible detail, with high quality video/audio.

There are several advantages to this; first, you have access to it anytime you want to watch it. Secondly, you can review it at anytime, and move to any part of the vodcast you want to see/hear. These are HUGE advantages over a live feed and the potential technical and time nightmares for some.

The downside is the "live" element. Here's my take; after the initial "workshop" series of vodcasts, I would move to email recommendations or do Skype hookups and have some "roundtable" chats about the burning questions. I would base my future vodcasts on these emails and discussions so that if I'm not covering something people want to know about, they can request it. There are always new things coming around about this process so there is always something to vodcast about.

What do you think about this? Is it something that you would be interested in? Don’t be shy, YES! or NO! please chime in!

Post Script:
If it's okay, everyone that reponds to this thread will be put on an email list so that I can communicate with you "offline". If you don't want an email or two about vodcasts, tell me and I'll take you off, no worries.

Quinn, that's an interesting new take.
This could actually be advantageous in a lot of ways.
The main one I see is the follow ups.
For those of us that have been tinkering for awhile some of the material will be redundant and 'unnecessary'. Also, I'm sure some of the material will be of content some of us aren't currently doing (like negatives, pop or albumen).
So follow ups could focus on the areas of interest.
If you want to do roundtable follow ups, you might be able to consolidate similar questions for one 'meeting' and others for the next, thus avoiding the issue I stated above.

Quinn,
sounds like a great idea. I can see you reaching more people this way instead of trying to do the workshop via skype.

Thanks guy, exactly the info I need to hear. If you have any specific ideas, please pass them on. I'm going to do this, and I want to do it right.

I agree, I think this would have more potential and could be used as a resource for schools, presentations, etc. In other words, I could get a lot of mileage out of doing it this way.

Quinn - Your vodcasting program with possible follow-ups is even more complete than the skype program.  it's a terrific and quite thorough approach to disseminating the information to lots of people ... count me in!
