I got a couple out at the folk festival but it wasn't easy. Sheeze, I was shooting a wide angle rectilinear at f64, then closed it down to f128 and still was overblowing shots. On the good side, it was easy to pour the plates, and everything was working very consistently.

Rain, rain,rain.......Glad you liked it MarkZ. I hate trying to shoot indoors!!! Shot 23 plates today, 13 shot indoors and they are crap. So what do you do?? Go outside in the rain...last 10 plates shot outside all are great!!! This was alot of fun even though the first half the day was frustrating. My hands have never been blacker!!!

I had a helluva time trying to find somewhere that wasn't blowin 30MPH (50KPH) winds.
Finally settled down around noon and I was able to make about 5 plates along the Colorado River. I attempted a tryptich of 8x10s. First two didn't line up perfectly... but, c'est la vie. I enjoyed getting out and pouring and I had alot of people coming up interested in what I was doing.

I worked my butt off, making images at the bicentennial celebration in Liberty, Miss. Made some money and nice pictures.

I shot several in my new studio using electronic flash for the most part. I uploaded a couple to the Wetplate Day site.
I have a very lousy scanner and so the plates look much better in person. I can't quite seem to get the color correct and the scanner always builds more contrast and noise into the scan. I'll try to do some better scans next week at school. Joe |

I shot four plates today and really liked one portrait. Â I'm uploading that one. Â Hope everyone had fun shooting today.

It's great to read what everyone's been doing. And it's even more exciting to see the images being uploaded to the site.Â
We owe Garrett a BIG thank you. I know he's investing a lot of time in getting the images up there - THANK YOU GARRETT! If you want to be included in the catalog/publication, please send me (wetplate@gmail.com) 300 dpi images - size them for 8x10 (or somewhere in there - depending on your format). The information is on the wetplateday.org site - thanks. Also, Rene has sent me his - spot on, release and all!

Well, after a 3 month hiatus it was like riding a bike. I was happy with the chemistry and had a blast making plates again. I sent along 4 plates from the afternoon.
It's exciting to see all the other plates. |

It has been my pleasure to create the thumbnails and upload your plates to the website. Each of you immortalized a thought on your plates yesterday. I, too, shot plates, and though I was in public, it wasn’t until I started looking at all of your work that I appreciated the camaraderie. Each of us were doing the same things physically; inventorying chemicals and equipment, fighting the elements whether sun or rain, pouring and dipping in our settings, and getting our fingers black. Each of us wondered how the others would embrace our work. How the public would react. Each of us showed our solidarity in solitary.
Few of us have actually met. Yet we spend time together on the Collodion forums, and learn from each other virtually. But as I opened each email posting, and looked at your pictures, I suddenly felt it. I recognized your style, or a favorite subject, or the emotion, or the learning difficulties. And today as you look at the website, you will see that together were were a success. |

And let's thank Geert-Jan Heyda, who programmed this great site, worked with a lot of us to tweak it and applied the domain name. It's a nice site where we can archive this day. Thanks Geert-Jan!

Scott, sorry I didn't see your post about meeting up until last night. Glad you got to pour some though. I like em, by the way. |
